Films in competition for Film Festival Cannes 2018

Only three weeks until the Film Festival in Cannes begins. One week ago the movies in competition were announced by the committee. 21 movies from all over the globe will be in competition to win the most coveted prize during the festival, namely the Palme d’Or.

Australian actress Cate Blanchett will be the president of the jury along with 4 other women and 4 men. At the closing ceremony the jury will have to make the difficult decision to award the Palme d’Or prize to one of the movies in competition.

No selfies or Netflix allowed

France wouldn’t be France without its rules. Chairman Pierre Lescure announced that people are not allowed to take selfies on the red carpet. In 2017 there were no Netflix films selected to compete and that will be no different for this year. To be in competition, films should be screenplayed in a cinema and since that’s not the case for Netflix movies, these will not be included in this year’s festival.

Other categories

Next to the films in competition, there will also be some special and midnight screenings. “Solo: A Star Wars Story” by Ron Howard will be a movie out of competition, along with “Le Grand Bain” from Gilles Lellouche.

The jury of Cannes’ Film Festival 2018

Only 17 days until France’s most prestigious festival takes place, namely the Film Festival in Cannes. This year the festival will be held from 8 to 19 May 2018. Numerous prizes will be given by this year’s jury that consist of 5 women and 4 men coming from 7 nationalities and 5 continents.

21 movies will be in competition at Cannes’ 71^st Film Festival to win numerous prizes such as the famous Palme d’Or, also known as Golden Palm, which is the highest prize that can be awarded. This prize is one of the most prestigious prizes rewarded in the film industry. The winner of last year was The Square directed by Swede Ruben Östlund.
Besides the Palme d’Or there are also other prizes that will be awarded the night of Saturday 19 May such as the prize for Best Actor and Best Actress.

Under the presidency of Cate Blanchett

This year the president of the jury is the Australian actress and twofold Oscar winner Cate Blanchett. She will be the twelfth woman who’s given the chairmanship of the jury. According to Blanchett she has been visiting Cannes as an actress and a producer for years now. “I have never come here to just enjoy the abundance of movies at this prestigious festival.”, says Cate. The chairman of the festival, Pierre Lescure, is very happy to welcome someone as Cate Blanchett at this year’s Film Festival. He states that she will be an committed chairwoman, a passionate woman and a generous spectator.

Jury members of 2018

Next to Cate Blanchett, there will be 4 other women chairing with her. Blanchett chose Khadja Nin, Kristen Stewart (known from the Twilight-saga), Léa Seydoux (“La Vie d’Adele”) and Ava DuVernay (American director and screenwriter) to join her in the jury. The other part of the jury consist of 4 men, namely the Chinese actor Chang Chen (“Crouching tiger, hidden dragon”),

French director Robert Guédiguian (“Marius et Jeannette”), Canadian director Denis Villeneuve (“Blade runner 2049”) and Russian director Andrej Zvjagintsev (“Loveless”). The women are definitely in the majority at the Film Festival of 2018.

Todos lo saben

Everybody knows in English or Todos lo saben in Spanish, directed by Asghar Farhadi, will kick of the Film Festival on 8 May. The committee of the festival released this news a few weeks ago. The Spanish movie Todos lo saben takes part in the official competition. Actress Penelope Cruz and actors Javier Bardem and Ricardo Darín are the main stars. Director Farhadi has already won the Oscar for best non-English movie twice (in 2011 with “A separation” and in 2016 with “The salesman”). Everyknow knows is his eight full-length film.

The prize list of this year’s edition will be revealed during the closing ceremony on May 19.

The famous history of Cannes’ Film Festival

Thé most famous festival in La Douce France is probably the prestigious Film Festival in Cannes that is being organised every year in May at Palais des Festival at La Croisette. During 12 days journalists and professionals are being submerged in the film industry. This since 1946.

A large number of film producers are offered the perfect opportunity to introduce their newest films at this festival. Since the film festival is getting a lot of media attention every year, people and celebrities all over the world travel to the famous Cannes located in La Côte d’Azur. The film stars are often transported to the red carpet in luxury limousines where a mass of journalists and photographers are waiting for them to take the perfect shot. Although the Film Festival is not accessible to public, one’s aware that the film world forms an essential industry. That is why they chose to broadcast movies at Cinéma de la Plage since 2010. This is a cinema that takes places in open air. Every night there is another film and these are always shown to the general public.

Back to 1946

The Film Festival dates from 1946, but according to the website of the festival this event started eight years earlier in 1938. In July 1938 numerous films were presented under the watchful eye of jury members René Jeanne and Philippe Erlanger. The official launch of the festival was May 31 in 1939, this was three months before the inauguration date. However, the event did not really take place. Tourist decided to leave Cannes, so the committee decided to organise a private presentation of the first film in Competition, namely The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, created by William Dieterle. On 1 September 1939, the initial inauguration date, Germany invaded Poland so the opening of the festival was postponed by ten days. However, on September 3 the war began. The films such as The Wizard of Oz and Only Angels Have Wings were part of the festival’s selection. Prizes for the festival selection were finally awarded 63 years later, in 2002.

71 years and counting

The most important values of the Film Festival have always been the same, and that for 71 years: a passion for cinema, discovering new talent and gathering professionals and journalists under the same roof. These values ensure that the Film Festival plays an essential role in the film industry to this day. The world never stops spinning and the makers of the festival also realize that. Thierry Frémaux, Generale Delegate since 2007, explains his vision of the future: “The Film Festival is an important event on a global scale. We are constantly endeavouring to help our selected works benefit from this image, by supporting the promotion of directors and their films in regions of the world where they have less prestige than in France.”

This year the Film Festival will be held from Tuesday 8 May to Saturday 19 May 2018.

GRANDE SUCCESSO DI PUBBLICO E QUALITA’ PER IL PRIMO “FESTIVAL DI MUSICA DA CAMERA” DI MONTECOSARO

MONTECOSARO - A metà aprile nella preziosa chiesa delle Anime si è tenuto il primo “Festival di Musica da Camera”, tre serate (13,14 e 15 aprile) in cui si sono state protagoniste formazioni eterogenee tra loro.

Un evento organizzato e voluto fortemente dal Direttore Artistico, il M°  Lorenzo Perugini, che è stato possibile grazie al Comune di Montecosaro, alla Proloco e alle molteplici persone che hanno collaborato con passione per la realizzazione dell’iniziativa e di quello che si spera sia il primo di tanti festival di musica da camera.

La prima serata ha visto ospite il duo pianistico composto dai maestri Lamberto Lugli, docente di Composizione al conservatorio di Pesaro, e Roberto Murra, docente di Pratica e Lettura pianistica al conservatorio di Frosinone. Hanno sviluppato un repertorio incentrato sulla musica del’900 seguendo il filo conduttore dell’ironia con brani  di autori come Poulenc e altri scritti appositamente per il duo. Tra le composizioni eseguite anche quella del Maestro Filippo Maria Caramazza presente in sala.

La seconda serata ha visto in scena il trio cameristico formato da Corno, Violino e Pianoforte. La formazione creata per l’occasione ha eseguito il monumentale e meraviglioso trio di Brahms, ma ha avuto anche la fortuna e l’onore di suonare due brani inediti: “Blue” del M° Stefano Chiurchiù e “Otello e la notte…” del M° Lamberto Lugli. l I tre esecutori sono stati il   M° Lorenzo Perugini al corno, il M° Luca Mengoni al violino e il M° Stefano Chiurchiù al pianoforte.

In occasione dell’ultimo appuntamento, che si è svolto di pomeriggio, la Chiesa delle Anime ha accolto le voci di tre bravissimi interpreti: il soprano Emanuela Torresi, il mezzosoprano Roberta Salvoni e il bass-baritono Massimiliano Mandozzi. I cantanti hanno eseguito arie e duetti di vari autori di diverse epoche interpretando magistralmente i vari stili proposti e regalando al pubblico grandi emozioni. Ad accompagnare le voci il pianoforte del M° Stefano Chiurchiù.

Il festival ha visto nelle tre serate una sempre crescente affluenza di pubblico tra amanti della buona musica e musicisti di grande livello.
