Yesterday it was announced that the repair work for the damaged Large Hadron Collider is going to be extended until summer of 2009 at a cost of 21 million dollars. The said damage was due to a faulty welding work.
We wonder how many other of such problems might arise since we are talking about a 27 kilometers machine of which precise results are expected. Also to consider is the current global economy crisis, even with a 10 billion dollars operative cost, future development might be at compromise not only upon this invention but similar initiatives could be stalled for years as well.
Time to reconsider our priorities.
The lame man who keeps the right road outstrips the runner who takes a wrong one. The more active and swift the latter is, the further he will go astray. -Francis Bacon
